5 Ways You Can Try and Find Your Purpose in Life
There are many positive things about millennial culture that is choosing to work according to their passion rather than just money. And the majority of them want to use their skills for a cause apart from the work that they already do. This shows their will and passion to contribute something to the society. However, many are still exploring their options as they don’t exactly know what is going to give them the satisfaction they need.
And in my purview of things, finding your purpose in life is more than anything else. It is not a clichéd dream that everyone runs after but are never able to achieve. No matter what your standards of success are, you can truly be successful when you’ve found your purpose in life. Some people are lucky and they find their purpose of life coincidently, whereas some have to do some work for it.
If you haven’t found your purpose in life yet, consider trying the following options, and who knows, you may also get lucky.
1. Contribute or Donate Your Time and Skills
There have been several studies conducted on the subject of happiness and meaningfulness, and researchers have found out that both are connected to your purpose in life. A feeling of happiness comes from receiving rather than giving, whereas meaningfulness or content comes from giving. And having a balance of both in life is critical to understanding your purpose in life.
You can take some time out on weekends and visit a bhandara or a langar where free food is provided to everyone. You can help them in any way you want. You can either help them in cooking, managing the place, or just serve food to everyone. Such kind gestures make you feel content and give you an insight into your soul.
2. Meet New People and Start Conversations
Resist your urges of using social media and try to meet and talk to people around you. Talk to them about the stuff that both of you like and try to understand what they’re doing in life and why they’ve chosen to do so. Or you can also try to meet new people. You can use certain apps that’ll help you find people who are like-minded. Here you don’t necessarily have to look for your love interest but for a companion whom you can just talk to, and maybe over time you can become good friends. You might also find a mentor or someone who can help you in your career.
3. Only Be in the Company of Positive People
“You are the company you keep.” And you should only be around people who are not only like-minded but also positive. And don’t feel obligated to meet people you see every day. Instead, meet and talk to the people that you chose to outside your workplace and formal gatherings. When you are in connect with positive individuals, they will most certainly talk to you about your life and yourself. Listen to what they have to say even if they give you positive criticism. Take inspiration from them and improve where you are supposed to.
4. Take Out Time to Explore Your Interests but Not Alone
Start doing things that you like but ensure that you’re doing that in someone’s company. Whether it is painting, reading, or maybe listening to some good music. Engaging in activities with others improves your social skills and also makes you more receptive towards ideas and opinions. It doesn’t matter if you agree with them or not, but at least you will learn to listen to them without being dismissive or angry. Investing time in your hobbies also improves your skills that you can use in your work or maybe start a new career.
5. Accept the Challenges that Life has Presented before You
Life is tasteless if you are not curious enough to explore new avenues for yourself. And I’m not talking about creating multiple avenues for earning. I’m talking about exploring new things and enjoying the daring adventure that is life. The more curious you become, the more new things you’ll learn and develop a better understanding of life. Remember, life seems too long when you are surrounded by negative thoughts and you are always thinking about your limitations. Instead, be positive and think about what more you can do that’ll leave a positive impact on your and others’ lives.
The moral of the story is that finding the purpose of life is not a destination. It’s a process, and the more you enjoy this journey, the more you’ll be in love with life and yourself. And your purpose of life doesn’t mean that you’ll have to change what you’re doing right now. It means finding pleasure in what you do and enjoying the way you do it.
